Susun Weed answers 90 minutes of herbal health questions followed by a 30 minute interview with guest Farmer Tammie.
Bio: Farmer Tammie is an herbal and flower farmer with over 20 years of experience in studying herbs and plants. Born in Washington, DC, and raised in Prince George's County, Farmer Tammie has cultivated a deep passion for herbalism, beekeeping, and farming. In 2023, she transitioned to farming full-time, starting by growing only the herbs she needed for her private herbal practice, later expanding to include a wider variety of herbs and foraged plants. By 2024, Farmer Tammie grew 35 different herbs and contributed to growing around 20 varieties of vegetables.
In addition to her farm, Farmer Tammie operates a plant nursery and cut flower farm, focusing on the cultivation of beautiful, sustainable plants. She also began beekeeping in 2023, finding joy in this new venture. A dedicated volunteer at UDC Research Farm, Farmer Tammie is actively involved in the New Farmer Program, furthering her agricultural knowledge and skills.
A self-taught herbalist, Farmer Tammie offers basic herbal education and folk herbal processing, specializing in tinctures, teas, and oil infusions for a private customer base.
Farmer Tammie also developed a one-year herbal intensive workshop, teaching the folk methods of tincturing and oil infusions. She has shared her knowledge by teaching at the Awesome Annual Gullah Geechee Herb Conference in St. John’s Island, SC, and providing one-on-one workshops for schools, groups, and individuals eager to learn.
Through her work, Farmer Tammie is committed to sharing the healing power of herbs, flowers, and bees with her community while supporting sustainable farming practices.
